The Gabares
The term gabarre, gabare, or gabarros actually refers to several types of riverboats from different basins along France's Atlantic coast (Loire, Sèvre Niortaise, Charente, Dordogne, Garonne). Their only common feature, shared by all river transport boats, is the flat bottom, called the "sole," which allows them, with a shallow draft, to carry a maximum load.
